Music is an incredible thing. Studying music and learning to play an instrument help activate and coordinate many parts of our brains. Creating and sharing music helps us connect to our fellow humans and communicate ideas and emotions. This short TED-Ed video helps explain some of the biological reactions our brains have to music. Through learning how to play, we will also learn elements of melody, rhythm, steady beat, note reading/writing, and reading chord charts.

We will use songs we already know (student "favorites") to identify popular song form, and also explore rondo and sonata form. Students will begin to write their own songs.
